Research shows that students achieve at higher levels when their families are involved in their education. The district also believes that the chances of educational success for Saint Paul students will be increased by raising the achievement of adult learners. This site will group resources from departments and programs within the district with on-line resources that will not only help adults learn, but will provide adults with ideas and guidance to help students succeed.
The district will focus on three instructional best practices for the 2001-2005 school years.
Balanced literacy - reading and writing are integrated to make the elementary classroom a language rich environment. Diverse strategies are used to ensure that every student becomes a fluent reader and proficient writer. Balanced Literacy

Inquiry-based science - this hands-on approach to the teaching of science mirrors the way research is conduced by actual scientists. Through this approach, students explore the worl around them. they ask questions, make discoveries, form theories, and collect data to test those theories through further research.
